Post-Covid-syndromes have high impact on incapacity for work: a mean of over 100 days is reported in Germany(1) Magnesium-deficiency is documented as risk increasing factor for fatal outcome of acute covid disease.(2,3). A first case report of post-covid-treatment with hybrid-magnesium parenteral/oral was presented in feb. 2021 during the Global Magnesium Covid 19 online conference (4). Yet exists no established explanation for post-covid or long-covid syndrome as well as there is no established therapy. In recourse to the hypothesis that magnesium-depletion might favour microvascular early-aging and so favour neuro-degenerative prozesses (5) in connection with long years documentation of pulsewave-analysis(pwv), magnesium and Mg/Ca-profiles in patients who suffered covid-disease now result preliminary observations of these parameters in post-covid patients in our primary care office. Fig 1 shows an over 6 years series of pulse-wave-analysis in a 59 years old female patient , who suffered from post-covid syndrome: Her augmentation-index (AIX) as an indicator oft he actual microvascular condition increased from favourable 8% (2020) to highly pathological 39% in the post-covid disease period – corresponding with the mean value of a 80 years old person (6). Another 67 years old female post-covid patient recovered clinically very good and soon with high dosed magnesium-therapy and showed coincident positive decrease of AIX to 4%. Further case reports in the context of magnesium-pretests and AIX are presented. Late controlled studies concerning magnesium-supplementation and PWV focus the other parameter – the (macrovascular determined) pulse-wave-velocity (pwv) and found no association of pwv with several month of magnesium supplementation(7). Therefore it must be emphazised that all our observations oft the last years where not based on pwv but focussed AIX as volatile but the more magnesium dependent parameter . Further on our patients where mostly supplemented over years and not only 24 weeks. The overall small number of clinically manifest post-covid cases among our patients (n= 10 when writing the abstract) among actually 470 „corona-context“ treatment cases is evident. We derive from this two working hypothesis I: persistent high magnesium levels may contribute to reduce the number of post-covid – and II: in case of post-covid syndrome high-dose possibly hybride magnesium-therapy might influence favorable the course oft he disease. The corona pandemics and its microvascular consequences are possibly and anfortunately a not intended „turbo-experiment“ for „microvascular-early aging“ in a great number of undetected magnesium-depletion patients. Facing the disease load for individuals first – and society second this justifies not only controlled studies but latest now to led the alert of medical doctors on the optimal magnesium status of these patients.
