Since the CE certification of the magnesium compression screw (Syntellix Magnezix^©) in 2013, also an absorbable magnesium stent (Biotronik Magmaris^©) has entered the market. This leads to an increase in clinical application of this kind of implants, and adverse effects or clinical problems can become obvious. At the same time, the FDA-approved polymer stent (Abbott Absorb^©) has been recalled from the market one year after certification due to composite device oriented adverse effects.
Aim of the talk is to give an overview about the clinical data and a critical discussion on the use of magnesium implants.
